DESCRIPTION

The aim of the course is to understand the interaction among entrepreneurs, public administrations, organisations and companies so entrepreneurs can take on the technological or technical challenges launched by the stakeholders involved in the process such public administrations or corporations.

Throughout the course the candidates will work on the steps of an Open Innovation process:

  1. Organizations/Administrations with an interest in actively participating in an open innovation dynamic are invited to present their challenges.
  2. The challenges are assessed and defined by a committee in order to estimate their feasibility.
  3. A call for solutions is open for PhD candidates to offer solutions to the challenges indicated. At the same time, an open session will be organised to present the challenges.
  4. Group workshops will be held to work on the different methodology phases in a practical way. These workshops will cover creativity techniques, business model development, marketing, and design and innovation tools.
  5. Ideas/solutions developed will be presented to the challenges’ owners’ at the end of the programme.

Furthermore, the course emphasizes development of skills related to creativity and business modelling, as well as capacity to detect problems and offer solutions.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In accordance with the Open Science Agenda, incorporation of activities which makes it crucial for Higher Education Institutions including for European Universities to integrate new or existing Open Science and entrepreneurship skills courses.

Knowledge

After completion of the course, the candidate:

  • Has in depth understanding of how to take up a challenge and offer a solution.
  • Has advanced knowledge about open innovation processes.
  • Has in-depth understanding of the core principles of business modelling.
  • Has insight into the main marketing strategies and techniques.
  • Can judge the appropriateness and application of different business development tools.

Has specific knowledge about how to present ideas or technical solutions.

Skills

After completion of the course, the candidate:

  • Can develop and discuss about business models.
  • Can discuss marketing strategies.
  • Can evaluate and assess different options and solutions.
  • Can document and present ideas or solutions.
  • Can use business development tools.
  • Can locate and understand main topics concerning entrepreneurship and starting up a business.

General competence

After completion of the course, the candidate:

  • Can identify and reflect on the challenges presented by the Public Administrations/Organizations involved.
  • Can identify and master entrepreneurship and business development tools to be applied in the process.
